Florida AG sues Boca debt relief firm

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is suing Boca Raton company Consumer Law Group alleging it went around laws limiting payments for debt relief, the Palm Beach Post reported. Consumer Law Group, which has reached a settlement on another such complaint for $1.2 million in North Carolina, is also alleged not to be a law firm according to Florida law. The suit targets attorney Michael Metzner, the company’s owner, and Boca Raton residents Ran Barnea and Daniel Post. Florida has fallen prey to scores of schemes targeting struggling consumers since the downturn, particularly those offering alleged foreclosure defense. [Palm Beach Post]
