Miami considers reneging on planned film studio

One month after selecting a design consultant to help it move forward with a film studio, the City of Miami has sold a part of the site slated for the Miami Entertainment Center.

According to Miami Today, Miami’s Omni Community Redevelopment Agency sold part of the parcel to the state’s Department of Transportation for slightly more than $1 million. And the agency is exploring the sale of the rest of the site. New York investor Moishe Mana, for one, is interested in developing the site.

Miami bought the site at 29 NW 13th Street, currently home to the 89,000-square-foot building that formerly held the Miami Skills Center, for $3.1 million last year.

“We can still sell the Skills Center at a profit,” Marc Sarnoff, Miami commissioner and director of the redevelopment agency said in January.

In February, Miami chose California-based Bastien & Associates to determine the next step for the site. While Mana is interested in the entertainment intiative, the plan could be scrapped if the private sector steps up and purchases the site, Miami Today noted. [Miami Today]
