FPL, eyeing higher rates, to hold hearing

Florida Power & Light is looking to raise its base rate, although it will hold a hearing to give customers the chance to express their views on the move, the Sun Sentinel reported. “It’s almost like voting, if you don’t exercise your opportunity to speak up, then you’ve missed your opportunity to give input,” said J.R. Kelly, the state’s public counsel and utility customer advocate. The company is planning a rate hike of $6.97 per month, meaning an increase of about $7 for the average bill from the utility in Florida. [Sun Sentinel]
