The Beacon

Affordable housing developer Carlisle will be lighting the ceremonial “Beacon” above the eponymous affordable housing project in Overtown, the first such site in the area in more than a decade. The 90-unit project targets individuals making between 28 percent and 60 percent of the average median income. The ground floor of the complex includes 2,900 square feet of donated community space for the Center for Empowerment and Education. The Beacon, which is located at 1001 NW 1st Avenue, topped off construction last year. The $25 million project broke ground in 2010. — Alexander Britell
