Former Florida Marlins shortstop and longtime major leaguer Edgar Renteria has sold his home on Miami Beach’s Allison Island for $8.33 million, according to One Sotheby’s International Realty.

The 11,772-square-foot property at 6633 Allison Road had been on the market for about a year and a half. One Sotheby’s had listed the property for $8.8 million in June after taking over the listing.

Renteria had World Series-winning single in the 11th inning of Game 7 of the 1997 World Series against the Cleveland Indians.

It sets a new record for Allison Island, one of the islands off of Miami Beach.

Renteria had purchased the home in 2000 for $1.51 million from Miami-area developer Sergio Rok, according to data from the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser’s office.

The previous high sale in the area had been for $4.2 million, according to Cyril Matz, who had the listing on the property with One Sotheby’s International Realty’s Mayi De La Vega.

While nearby La Gorce Island has seen a flurry of high sales in the last two years, Allison Island has remained under the radar, Matz said, though that could be changing.

“Allison Island is coming up and people are hearing more about it,” Matz told The Real Deal. “Many people drive by it and not realize it was there.”

Another Sotheby’s broker, Kevin Tomlinson, represented the buyer, an undisclosed limited liability company.
