Convention center developers call for botanical garden overhaul

South Beach ACE and Portman CMC are currently battling for the right to overhaul the Miami Beach Convention Center, but both firms agree that expanding the Miami Beach Botanical Garden must come with the convention center renovation, the South Florida Business Journal reported.

Yesterday, the developers presented their proposals for the renovation to the city commission and both plans emphasized the garden as a “unique amenity” that will draw visitors.

ACE and CMC also agreed that residential developments should be placed on the west side of the convention center, but they gave no details regarding the number of units or whether they would build rentals or condominiums, if selected to re-develop the center. [SFBJ] —Christopher Cameron
