Leases totaling 52,570 square feet in space have brought the occupancy at the Florida Atlantic University Research and Development Park in Boca Raton to more than 80 percent, the Sun Sentinel reported.

American Sugar Refining and Modernizing Medicine, a provider of electronic medical record systems, are among the tenants. The sugar cane refining company leased 16,000 square feet, while the other company expanded by 10,500 square feet to a total of 26,000 square feet.

Founded in 1995, the 310,000-square-foot park on the north side of main campus houses 24 companies. Other new tenants include Electronic Payment Systems, FAU Simulation Center, a facility for medical and nursing students, and Life of Purpose, a research-based treatment center for students.

The remaining space is largely inside a 25,000-square-foot building intended for one tenant. Brokers told the Sun Sentinel that leasing has been slow at the park in recent years. [Sun Sentinel]Mark Maurer
