Wynwood warehouse-to-retail project underway

Internal demolition of a former shoe warehouse in Wynwood slated for conversion into a retail and gallery space is complete, Gaston Miculitzki of Brightway Properties, who brokered the building’s sale last December, told The Real Deal.

In keeping with the industrial character of Wynwood, the outside of the block-long building at 2601 NW 2nd Ave. has been left intact, a blank canvas for the neighborhood’s graffiti artists, except for the back wall, which will be made into a vertical garden.

“We are receiving a lot of calls from artists asking to paint it for free,” Miculitzki told TRD. “The idea is to stay true to the general concept of Wynwood, which, as opposed to Lincoln Road, favors the raw, factory look.”

A consortium of mainly Argentine investors bought the property for $6.5 million last December, and are spending $1.5 million to revamp the space, according to Miculitzki. – Emily Schmall
