Florida nation’s foreclosure king for 3rd month

Florida led the nation in July with the most residential foreclosure filings for the third straight month, according to RealtyTrac.

Nine of the nation’s 10 highest metro foreclosure rates in July were in Florida cities, and five of those nine Florida cities posted increasing foreclosure activity from a year ago, the Irvine, Calif.-based company said in a report released today.

South Florida had the nation’s second-highest foreclosure rate, with one in 250 homes in the foreclosure process in July. Jacksonville ranked first, at one in 230.

Statewide, foreclosure activity increased 8 percent from the previous month and was up 7 percent from a year ago. Florida foreclosure activity has increased on an annual basis in 16 of the last 19 months.

Nationally, nearly 131,000 homes were in the foreclosure process, down 32 percent from July 2012, according to RealtyTrac. — Emily Schmall
