West Palm planning board OKs Related hotel project

The West Palm Beach planning board gave the greenlight to Related’s long-delayed 400-room county convention center hotel project.

The $105 million Hilton hotel development would unite the Related Group and its New York counterpart the Related Companies. The city commission will review the proposal next. If approved, it is set to break ground early next year. The hotel and an eight-story parking garage will be built on the area, which is currently set aside for overflow parking. The county selected Related as the developer for the project in 2010, as previously reported. The delay was largely attributed to Related moving slowly on the project as it attempted to rescue CityPlace at 700 South Rosemary Avenue in West Palm Beach from foreclosure.

The board also approved the redevelopment of the Patriot Golf Course at 2300 Presidential Way as a hotel, rental complex and single-family homes in a community to be known as Lands of the President. [South Florida Business Journal] — Mark Maurer
