Palm Beach zoning change could spur referendum

A zoning change that brings more density to a major block in the town of Palm Beach could be heading to a voter referendum.

Palm Beach activists fighting the zoning change on Royal Poinciana Way are about 200 signatures shy of the town’s minimum required to force a vote, Palm Beach Daily News reported. The petition must have 801 signatures, which represents the minimum of 10 percent of the town’s 8,007 registered voters. The Neighborhood Alliance of Palm Beach and the Palm Beach Preservation Alliance began circulating the petition on Nov. 13.

That day, Palm Beach council members approved zoning and comprehensive plan changes that allow increased residential units and a third story on certain Royal Poinciana Way buildings.
