Large Jupiter development moves forward

Jupiter’s planning and zoning commission is on board with revamped plans for the Lakewood residential development.

Commissioners recommended approval of the latest proposal for Lakewood on 260 acres at the intersection of Indiantown Road and Florida’s Turnpike on Tuesday, the Palm Beach Post reported. Developer Otto “Buzz” DiVosta scaled down the project to 286 single-family homes from 350 and eliminated a proposed gas station on the site. Lakewood would include a restaurant, clubhouse and 150,000 square feet of biotech space, with three acres of vacant land designated for the development of additional research facilities.

The Lakewood acreage is one of Jupiter’s last available large development sites. Major builder Toll Brothers filed a lawsuit in an attempt to prevent Lakewood from being developed. Toll built Jupiter Country Club across the street and wants the original concept of a golf course and resort at Lakewood to remain in place. [Palm Beach Post] — Eric Kalis
