Billionaire Soffer no longer faces $100M lawsuit

A $100 million wrongful death lawsuit against real estate mogul Jeffrey Soffer has been withdrawn less than a month after being filed in Miami.

Plaintiff Daria Gogoleva, the widow of Lance Valdez, who died in a 2012 helicopter crash in the Bahamas, dropped the suit on Tuesday, the Miami Herald reported. No explanation was provided. Soffer was also injured in the crash.

The developer’s attorneys said no settlement had been reached with Gogoleva, who had accused Soffer of piloting the helicopter when it crashed at the Baker’s Bay Golf & Ocean Club in Great Guana Cay.

Soffer is CEO of Aventura-based real estate company Turnberry Associates and owns the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. The developer, who is married to supermodel Elle Macpherson, survived the crash along with four others. [Miami Herald]Eric Kalis
