MLS commissioner Don Garber said the league plans to announce the status of Beckham’s efforts to bring a team to Miami early next month, the Miami Herald reported. If Beckham can finalize a stadium deal in Miami, the city should get the nod for the new franchise. As part of his contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Beckham has an opportunity to purchase an expansion team for a substantial discount.

The English soccer legend is teaming up with business manager Simon Fuller and local billionaire Marcelo Claure on the investment. Beckham’s investment group is in talks with Miami-Dade officials about leasing county land and building a privately-funded stadium on a PortMiami site. [Miami Herald]Eric Kalis
