MLS gives boot to Beckham’s Marlins Park stadium idea

Major League Soccer doesn’t want David Beckham’s Miami stadium to be located next to the Marlins Park in Little Havana.

“No — we’re not considering that location,” MLS President Mark Abbott told the Miami Herald. “Our strong belief is that, to be successful, it needs to be downtown.”

Recently, politicians had begun to promote the Marlins site, and it could be difficult for Beckham to find another piece of public land for his private stadium that his investors find suitable, according to the Miami Herald.

The stadium would seat between 20,000 and 25,000 fans and cost as much as $250 million. [Miami Herald] Christopher Cameron
