The developers of Miami Worldcenter submitted plans to the city for the first phase of the massive mixed-use project.

Miami Worldcenter Associates, the Forbes Co. and Taubman announced the initial step in the City of Miami’s design review process in a written statement released on Tuesday. Architecture firm Elkus-Manfredi Architects designed the first phase, which includes the 765,000-square-foot luxury shopping center to be anchored by a 120,000-square-foot Bloomingdale’s and a 195,000-square-foot Macy’s. Forbes and Taubman are collaborating on the development of the Mall at Miami Worldcenter.

Other first phase plans include the Seventh Street Promenade, a pedestrian-only block with European-style outdoor cafes, bars, restaurants and boutique stores. More than 1,000 residential units and about 4,400 parking spaces are also proposed.

A city board delayed voting on proposed zoning changes for the downtown project last week. The Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board is expected to address the request during its Sept. 3 meeting. — Eric Kalis
