Architect challenges Miami to develop a pre-design plan

Rafael Fornés, architect and former professor at the University of Miami School of Architecture, says Miami isn’t making very good use of it coastline. For one, he argues that it shouldn’t allow massive buildings to block access to Biscayne Bay.

“Miami’s coastline is very incoherent and uncharacteristic,” Fornés, who has followed Miami’s urban planning for 20 years, told the Miami Herald. He is now a lecturer at the UM School of Architecture. According to Fornés, the root of the problem, Fornés said, lies in the fact that Miami does not have a structured pre-design plan of the city’s civic space, according to the Herald. “Miami is clamoring for a master plan,” Fornés said.
