Boutique Marriott wins conditional approval

West Palm Beach commissioners conditionally approved the proposed Marriott “boutique hotel” next to the Palm Harbor Marina. The commission’s condition? The developers must reduce the scale of the parking garage.

Developers do have the option of building a taller building and putting the garage beneath it – although that would have to be agreed upon by residents of the adjacent Waterview Towers condominium, according to the Palm Beach Post.

The proposal consists of an eight-story, 75-foot, 108-room, 92,063-square-foot hotel, with 2,650 square feet of meeting rooms and a nearly 5,000-square-foot restaurant and bar overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway.

According to current plans, a 44-space surface lot and a three-story, 137-space garage would sit alongside the hotel.

“I really love the way the hotel looks. I really hate the garage,” Mayor Jeri Muoio said. With a lot of parking downtown, she said, “I don’t think that’s what we want on the waterfront.” [Palm Beach Post] – Christopher Cameron
