Frost Science Museum takes shape

Construction on the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science reached several key milestones nearly three years after breaking ground.

According to the Miami Herald, workers finished pouring the roof deck earlier this month and work on enclosing the planetarium dome is set to start next week. Next month, contractors hope to pour the concrete for the Gulf Stream Tank aquarium.

Six months ago, the museum replaced its former construction management company with Skanska USA.

The $300 million facility is scheduled to open in early summer 2016. County bond money is paying for more than half of the project, while the museum is looking to raise $135 million in private funds. Donors have pledged about $90 million, the article said. [Miami Herald] – Jennifer White Karp
