Miami approves new plan for Midtown Wal-Mart

The saga of Wal-Mart’s proposed Midtown Miami store isn’t over yet.

The national retailer’s plan for a 203,000-square-foot store on North Miami Avenue has been opposed by area residents. A group of residents banded together to sue the city for granting variances on loading berths. In October, a three-judge panel ruled that the city approved five berths, which is above the allowed limit of three. The judges sent the issue back to the city for reconsideration.

Paul Savage, an attorney representing the residents, argued that Wal-Mart should start its permit process again from the beginning. However, City Attorney Victoria Mendez said Wal-Mart should resubmit its plans with the correct number of loading berths. Those corrected plans were submitted on Saturday and approved Thursday, according to the Miami Herald.

Savage said his clients might appeal the decision to the three-judge panel. [Miami Herald] – Chris Guanche
