City board approves changes to Miami’s Triton Center

The project to redevelop Miami’s old federal immigration building into a hotel is accelerating after the site was granted a 10-percent reduction in required parking spaces.

The Miami Urban Development Review Board recently approved a request by the developer, Florida Fullview Immigration Building LLC, to place parking above the second level and reduce the number of required spots from 640 to 576.

The approval came with several conditions, including conducting a traffic study, working with architects to create more textural changes in the design and teaming with an artist for the new parking garage’s screen wall, Miami Today reported.

The developer is planning to turn the vacant building at 7880 Biscayne Boulevard into the Triton Center hotel and retail shops. The building will be renovated into a 135-room hotel with 24,000 square feet of retail shops. Future plans include adding residential buildings with 317 units to the site, according to the paper. [Miami Today] — Chris Guanche
