Palm Beach to attempt land swap for $135M baseball stadium

Palm Beach County commissioners reportedly agreed Tuesday to negotiate a land swap to build a new $135 million spring training baseball stadium.

Two teams, the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, have proposed moving to Palm Beach County for spring training, the Sun Sentinel reported. The county would have to build them training facilities and a stadium as part of the deal.

West Palm Beach hasn’t been willing to donate land and no one has been willing to pay for the 160 acres they want the stadium built on. The proposed swap would involve trading 1.8 acres of county-owned land in downtown West Palm for the southeast corner of 45th Street and Haverhill Road. [Sun Sentinel] — Katherine Kallergis
