Hunt Construction Company formally withdrew its bid for the $500 million renovation and expansion of the Miami Beach convention center, The Real Deal has learned.
In a memo obtained by TRD from Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales to Mayor Philip Levine and the city commission, Morales said the withdrawal leaves the city with one qualified bidder, Clark Construction Group.
In November, the commission approved Clark, Hunt and Hensel Phelps Construction Company, in that order, as the candidates to move to second round in the selection process. Morales had recommended the short list, in line with a selection committee’s ranking.
Miami-based Hunt Construction has completed 20 convention centers and hotel convention center projects, totaling more than $5 billion, according to Miami Beach documents. Bethesda, Maryland-based Clark Construction, the remaining qualified bidder, has completed 15 convention center projects totaling $4.7 billion.
