Thomas Bales, a scientist and inventor who holds 90 patents, has sold his Coral Gables mansion to Armando J. Guerra, the vice president of Sedano’s Supermarkets.

Located at 9151 Arvida Lane, the 15,080-square-foot home reportedly sold for $12.6 million.

It has eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms and sits on a two-acre waterfront lot. Arguably its most prominent features are Bales’ science-related additions: a professional-grade telescope, a chemistry laboratory, a metal workshop, a recording studio and darkroom, a publication reported.

The home also has Brazilian cherry floors, a theater, sauna, shooting range and an elevator, the South Florida Business Journal reported.

Audrey Ross of EWM represented Bales in the sale.

The residence was purchased by the 9151 Arvida Land Trust, which is lead by Guerra, the publication reported. Guerra’s family founded Sedano’s in Hialeah in 1962.

Bales co-founded Symbiosis Corp and Syntheon, which are medical device companies. He also founded the aerospace company EAC. [South Florida Business Journal] — Sean Stewart-Muniz
