Fort Worth, Texas-based D.R. Horton, the largest single-family home builder in the country, is set to break ground on its new Southeast Florida division headquarters in Coconut Creek.

The company said it will begin construction on the 22,000-square-foot building, at 6123 Lyons Road, on April 16.

It will house the division’s business operations, in-house mortgage and title companies, and a showroom for home upgrades like flooring and cabinets.

“We have helped thousands of people in Southeast Florida realize their dream of home ownership, and decided it was time to put down our own roots.” said Rafael Roca, resident of D.R. Horton’s Southeast Florida Division, in a statement.

The company has 20 communities in the tri-county area, and was accused last year of abandoning one of its housing developments after the market crashed.

There was also debate over the company’s practice of retaining the rights to the minerals found below homeowner’s properties. D.R. Horton agreed to return those rights to homebuyers last year. — Sean Stewart-Muniz
