    Power broker Betsey Hall, who has brokered a pair of eight-digit Palm Beach home sales in the last two years, has left her post at Fite Shavell & Associates to take a roll with Hall and Hall Real Estate, the Palm Beach Daily News reported. Her new firm was established by her son, Steve, and his wife, Renee, last month after they left Fite Shavell.

    In July 2009, Betsey Hall brokered the county’s biggest transaction of the year, a $17.4 million sale of Casa Andanda at 710 S. Ocean Boulevard. She represented the buyer, best-selling mystery novelist James Patterson. [more]

    It’s that time of year again, when the temperature falls and the northern snowbirds come down South to roost. Brokers say they’re seeing increased movement in the snowbird sector early on in the season especially from Canadian buyers, with the season already a few weeks underway.  “We’re certainly seeing increased activity, with more buyers coming through,” said Bill Yahn, the Corcoran Group’s regional senior vice president for South Florida. “It’s manifesting itself in all the markets we serve.” While snowbirds, Northeners who have second homes or long-term vacations in Florida for the winter, tend to look for homes in a fairly broad range of prices; right now it’s the higher end that’s seeing the most interest.   • Novelist James Patterson has sold his home at 686 Island Drive on
    Everglades Island for $10.335 million, according to Palm Beach County
    records. The home had been listed for $14.95 million with Fite Shavell
    & Associates. Betsey Hall, an associate at the firm, represented
    buyer and seller. The current appraised value of the home, which the
    author bought in 1999 for $5.2 million, is $11.8 million. Last year,
    Patterson purchased Casa Ananda, a home at 710 S. Ocean Boulevard, for
    $17.41 million. The sale is the third-priciest in Palm Beach this year [Palm Beach Daily News]

    Palm Beach brokers had a busy 2009, if not in terms of sales, then in terms of moving. Mergers, high profile departures and hirings as well as expansion all characterized a year that saw lots of market drama.

    At the start of 2009, the Mirsky Realty Group brought Heidi Cole into the company and expanded its operations. Now called Mirsky Cole & Company, it has 79 agents in two Palm Beach offices and one Jupiter location.

    Sheri and Paul Reback, whose family-owned company has serviced high-end properties in North Palm Beach for 35 years, bought an Engel & Voelkers franchise and converted that firm’s North Palm Beach office, with eight agents, in late 2008. Then, they bought a Palm Beach franchise and opened an office on Peruvian Avenue with three agents in April 2009. [more]
