  • Mayfair in the Grove

    Information technology firm Sapient has signed a 54,000-square-foot lease at the Mayfair in the Grove office and retail complex in Miami’s Coconut Grove neighborhood. The deal, which includes street-level retail space that will be repurposed to office space, will consolidate two offices into the building. Jones Lang LaSalle’s Noel Steinfeld and Chris Dekker represented Mayfair owner Whalou Properties in the transaction. Jon Bourbeau, vice chairman of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, represented Sapient. The Mayfair in the Grove complex is now 90 percent leased. —Alexander Britell

  • The Coconut Grove Bank site

    The Terra Group, which is developing the Grove at Grand Bay project in Coconut Grove, has purchased the nearby five-acre site of Coconut Grove Bank on South Bayshore Drive, the Miami Herald reported. “We felt this is one of the best sites that could be developed in Miami-Dade County,” said Terra’s Pedro Martin. The project is zoned for around 700 units, but would likely include around 200, according to Martin, who co-founded Terra Group with son David. Construction is slated to begin on the bank site around 2014. “We think it will help the entire marketplace,” Martin said. “We’re very bullish on the area.” [Miami Herald]

  • Residences at Vizcaya

    The Residences at Vizcaya condominium in Miami’s Coconut Grove neighborhood will soon be adding a new single-family component, the project announced Monday. The plans are for seven new single-family homes adjacent to the condo, to be called “Villas at Vizcaya.” The properties, which will start at $2.25 million, will each have around 4,000 square feet of interior space and three to four bedrooms. The homes will also have their own pools, two-car garages and their own elevators. — Alexander Britell

    The  Coconut Grove estate of John Peacock, a foundational figure in Miami’s history, has hit the market as a rental, asking $20,000 a month, according to Curbed. Built in 1910, the five-bedrooms, five-and-a-half-bathroom, 6,300-square-foot house sits on a full acre of land and features a formal living and dining areas, a pool, a tennis court, a generator, impact resistant windows, and 1,500-bottle wine cellar.   • Coconut Grove

    Developers and retailers alike have been served a blow by the Coconut Grove government: a moratorium on new toilets, sinks and showers in the neighborhood, the Miami Herald reported. Due to rain and a recent sewage increase, Pump Station #9 has reached maximum capacity, forcing the county to take action. The moratorium became effective in August and is already staling developments in the area, such as the planned overhaul of West Coconut Grove. [more]

  • The Mayfair Hotel

    The Mayfair Hotel & Spa in Coconut Grove will debut its renovated property this week, the company announced. The 179-room hotel, which first opened in 1985 as the Mayfair House, began the renovations during the summer. Jonathan Eismann’s Spartico restaurant will reopen at the hotel Oct. 15. Saun Lightbourne, executive director of sales and marketing at the Mayfair, said the upgrades were an “effort to return to its former glory.” They also included an overhaul of the pool and its surrounding 15,000-square-foot bar space. — Alexander Britell

  • The plan to convert a 100-year-old house in Coconut Grove into a 100-student pre-school and elementary school has been withdrawn from the Miami Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board. The under-contract plan to develop the 0.75-acre site, located at 1621 South Bayshore Drive across from Mercy Hospital, was dropped after wide-spread community opposition to a plan locals felt would bring “commercial intrusion” into their quite residential area.
