In a Tuesday vote, the distinctive mural-bedecked Biscayne Boulevard tower, which has served as Bacardi’s headquarters since 1963, won unanimous approval from the city preservation board to be named a historic building. The landmark designation means the tower, square annex and plaza will be protected from future development. Bacardi plans to move its headquarters to Coral Gables and will leave the complex by the end of the year, but has not publicized plans for its future.
