Bizarre exhibition “haunts” UES townhouse
“Architecture preserves ghosts," says artist Alex Da Corte
Philadelphia-based artist Alex Da Corte’s new exhibition, “Die Hexe” – meaning, “the witch,” in German – transforms an Upper East Side townhouse into a surreal “haunted house.”
The five-room show incorporates the work of Bjarne Melgaard, Mike Kelley and Robert Gober, according to Curbed. The venue is the Luxembourg & Dayan Gallery’s townhouse, at 64 East 77th Street, which was once home to musicians like the Mamas and the Papas.
“When you go into a home and paint the walls, you’re camouflaging the experience of the person that was there before—but it’s still the same walls,” Da Corte tells W Magazine. “Architecture preserves ghosts.” See [Curbed] for more photos. – Christopher Cameron
