The high-rise condo developments on the far West Side get most of the press ink, but the area remains dominated residentially by low-rise buildings, many of them rentals, like the two adjoining buildings at 444 West 49th Street that sold Wednesday for $3.175 million, according to the property’s marketer, Besen & Associates. Built in 1900, both Hell’s Kitchen buildings are walk-ups one five stories, the other three stories with a total of 25 rent-stabilized apartments. The buildings were owned by the same family since 1976.
