$987,000 keeps 511 jobs Downtown

It took $987,000 in public money to keep 511 jobs in Lower Manhattan. LaBranche & Company, a stock-trading firm, has agreed to lease space at 33 Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan instead of moving elsewhere. That will keep its 511 jobs in the area for at least 10 years. LaBranche made the decision to stay Downtown after receiving $987,000 from the Job Creation and Retention Program. more [NYT]
