City’s affordable housing stock plunges

New York City has less affordable housing now than it did four years ago, according to a new report from New York University. The number of apartments considered affordable to hundreds of thousands of moderate-income households — those households fueled by starting salaries for firefighters and police officers, for instance — dropped 17 percent between 2002 and 2005, the report stated. more [NYT]
