It’s preservationists versus surfers in Montauk, where plans to protect a historic lighthouse currently involve building a stone seawall, which surfers say would destroy the waves at a nearby beach. The Army Corps of Engineers is intent on building the seawall as part of a $14 million plan to preserve Montauk Light.
