Some want automat landmarked

Preservationists on the Upper West Side are pressuring the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission to grant landmark status to one of the city’s last remaining Horn & Hardhat Automat buildings at Broadway and 104th Street. Advocates say the automat building is “a remnant of New York culture in the 1920s and 1930s,” and “a major example of the vernacular popular architecture” of its time. more [AMNY]
