Commentator Peter Slatin says that now is a good time for builders of big buildings in New York City, but not for those interested in first-class architecture and proper planning. Downtown, work has just begun on the Freedom Tower, which Slatin describes as an “egregiously clunky and skyline-sucking icon.” Across the river in Brooklyn, developer Bruce Ratner’s Atlantic Yards project, a “vast, out of scale, and deeply unloved mixed-use development project in the heart of downtown Brooklyn,” is set to alter life in that borough. more [The Slatin Report]
