Architect Rem Koolhaas’ first large-scale residential development in the U.S., a mixed-use Jersey City project that the architect describes as a “vertical city,” was unveiled this morning at a press conference. The 1.2-million-square-foot development at 111 First Street will be the signature project in the city’s Powerhouse Arts District, and it will contain condos, a hotel, retail and live-work space for artists. City officials are touting the design as a work of art that will make the Jersey City skyline more appealing to New Yorkers and draw more people to New Jersey’s second-largest city. more By John Celock
