The level of toxins released into the air in New York City has risen sharply in the past few years, with various industrial plants along Queens’ East River waterfront contributing the lion’s share of the toxins that have been released. “We call it asthma alley,” said Queens Assemblyman Michael Gianaris. “It just so happens that you have probably 80 percent of the city’s electricity being generated in this area.
