A Cobble Hill firehouse that has been closed for four years, Engine 204 On Degraw Street, will not be sold. The city intended to sell the firehouse after budget cuts led to its shuttering in 2003, which caused a protracted battle between the Bloomberg administration and preservationists who argued the structure–built in 1855–should not be in private hands, and many community members, who said the area still needed the firehouse. The city now says the building will be leased for to-be-determined community uses. more [NYT]
