In addition to hushing up noisy bars, the city’s new noise code, which went into effect yesterday, will have a big impact on construction companies. According to the code’s enforcers, the Department of Environmental Protection, 49 percent of the city’s noise complaints in 2006 were related to construction. Provisions of the new code aimed at builders include limiting work hours at construction sites from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The revamped code also requires that construction companies use noise tents and fences with acoustic insulation.
