The YWCA at Atlantic Avenue and Third Avenue in Boerum Hill is being overhauled in order to create affordable housing for women. The nonprofit is currently revamping four floors of the building for the construction of 84 studio apartments that are expected to rent for a maximum of $600 a month. The Y also plans to renovate the 214 single-room-occupancy units on its upper floors. “When we’re done, we’ll be the largest provider of affordable housing in Downtown Brooklyn,” said Martha Kamber, executive director of the YWCA. The entire renovation will cost around $25 million. more [NYDN]
