Chumley’s owner says bar will reopen

The owner of famed former speakeasy Chumley’s says the West Village bar will reopen. The bar was closed in April following the collapse of a wall during construction work and, since then, it has been rumored that the bar would close permanently. Chumley’s owner Steve Shlopak says he has spent more than $1 million in repairs, and that he hopes to buy the building at 86 Bedford Street that houses the bar rather than simply leasing the space. more [AMNY]
