Some housing advocates and elected officials say the Housing Authority’s budget woes are leading to deteriorating conditions in the city’s public housing. The authority is waiting for the governor to sign a bill that will add $47 million to its budget this year. Councilwoman Rosie Mendez said New York’s “overheated private housing market” was having “unthinkable consequences” on public housing. The authority, which recently let go of 2,000 workers because of budget shortfalls, maintains 180,000 apartments in the city. more [AMNY]
