July 31, 2007 12:00AM

The New York City Housing Authority gave out Section 8 vouchers yesterday for the first time in 12 years. Because of an increase in federal funding, the authority has pledged to give out 22,000 new vouchers, which subsidize rent for low-income residents at registered private apartments. NYCHA distributed 200 vouchers yesterday and has closed its waiting list in order to sort through the 200,000 applications it has received. more [NY1]
