New York University has announced it is likely to purchase Trinity Chapel, on Washington Square South, from the Catholic Church. If purchased, the building, which is surrounded by other NYU facilities, is expected to be demolished to make room for an interfaith center, classrooms and offices. The university plans to build a seven-story structure despite zoning allowances for 12 to 14 stories, making it a priority “to build something that maintained the blue sky above the arch as one came down Fifth Avenue.” more [Villager]
