Hudson Yards bidders, city have ties

All five bidders in the West Side rail yards competition have ties to
the Bloomberg administration through former city employees or
friendships. Brookfield Properties employs Joshua Sirefman, former
interim president of the Economic Development Corporation; Vornado
Realty Trust has Kate Ascher, former senior executive vice president of
the EDC; Extell Development has former deputy mayor Marc Shaw; and the
Related Companies’ Stephen Ross is a friend of Deputy Mayor Daniel
Doctoroff. None are expected to give any of the developers an edge. The
MTA controls four out of the six votes on the selection committee; the
city appoints only two.
