Supporters of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s plan to charge drivers $8 on weekdays to enter Manhattan below 60th Street “need a miracle right now,” said Bronx Democratic Assemblyman Ruben Diaz Jr. As a federal deadline looms today for about $350 million in U.S. transportation funds, Assembly Democrats are holding up the plan’s passage at the state Legislature. To win their support, Bloomberg might have to agree to more changes. But that could mean the federal government would have to grant another extension to its deadline. And Bloomberg has already said the “time for changes” has passed.
