Upper West Side residents slam report on collapsed wall

Residents of Park West Village on the Upper West Side say a Department of Buildings report did a shoddy job of investigating why a retaining wall collapsed at 808 Columbus Avenue last July. Scott Stringer, the Manhattan borough president, said the city failed to examine the competence of inspectors and ensure that stop-work orders were enforced. “We’ve got a crisis of confidence in this city when it comes to protecting the public from the dangers of construction,” Stringer said. “This report was an opportunity for DOB to restore its credibility. Instead, we get more of the same.”
