The new deputy mayor for economic development, Robert Lieber, says his top priority is the city’s $3 billion plan to develop Willets Point in Queens. The city extended the deadline for final bids for the 75-acre “Iron Triangle” near Shea Stadium to June 15 from May 5. Lieber says that with not much time left for the Bloomberg administration, “we need to be a little more calculating about what we are going to focus on, because you are not going to be remembered for completing 40 percent of 100 projects, you are going to be remembered for the 40 projects that you did complete.” He said he’s confident that the city will bring Madison Square Garden’s owners back to negotiate over the redevelopment of Penn Station.
