Builders at the Freedom Tower have removed a bad batch of concrete from its foundation over the past few weeks. Out of more than 22,000 cubic yards of concrete poured so far, a batch of 50 cubic yards was jackhammered away from the core foundation. Contractors had found a 6-inch section that appeared to have excessive air pockets trapped inside. The tower is being built with the strongest concrete in New York City, with a strength that can withstand 14,000 pounds per square inch, compared to the 12,000 pounds per square inch at 7 World Trade Center.
