After crane accident, displaced tenants could allow for more development

After the mid-March crane accident on 51st Street forced tenants out of several buildings, at least two landowners that were affected are rumored to be jumping at the opportunity to develop their property. The owner of 954 Second Avenue was supposedly in talks with a neighboring developer, but cannot make a move while one of the building’s six tenants resides there. A restaurant at 301-303 East 50th Street is fighting its landlord to get repairs, while the owner would rather tear it down and rebuild the lot.
